Sun Festival in Marrakech

Sun Festival in Marrakech
Marrakech is one of the most vibrant and fascinating cities in Morocco. Among the many leisure and cultural activities that it offers,
festivals of all sorts are very high up in the list, including music, film, theatre, comedy, dance or magic. One of the youngest but most attractive festivals in the city is the Sun Festival, which celebrates its second edition in July 2009 loaded with energy, enthusiasm and quality.
The National Youth and Music Festival (FNDJEM), also known as Sun Festival, is Marrakech's flagship musical event. As its name indicates, it was created by young people for young people and it has set itself several objectives.
First of all, it celebrates the Moroccan nation and its patriotism, especially since the event coincides with the Youth and Throne National festivities. This way, the Marock'Jeunes association, which organises the event, hopes to take the Moroccan flag to the highest summits.
Another objective of the Sun Festival is to set up a large and varied panel of activities, all of them related to youth, the art world and culture. During this second edition, those attending will not only enjoy some wonderful musical evenings, but will also enjoy several workshops, animated by professionals, and conferences dealing with subjects closely related to young people (such as the environment, development, music, etc.). The festival also intends to become a springboard that will allow young talents to be better known and to provide them with opportunities to develop their skills and careers.
On the other hand, the Sun Festival ha objectives that change every year, so that each edition remains original and unique. The central theme of this second year's edition will be House music, Electro and DJs. Thus, the Sun Festival will bring a new innovation to the city, since it will introduce the first scene in Marrakech totally devoted to DJs.
In addition to this, the Sun Festival, on its 2nd edition, has gone international in order to open a dialogue between Morocco and the rest of the world though music, art and youth culture. Several artists from Finland, the guest of honour in this 2nd edition, will participate in the festival, together with artists from Spain, France and other countries.
One of the climactic moments of this edition will certainly be the presentation of the show "Tenor o no Tenor", performed by the Spanish trio consisting of the two spectacular sopranos Alicia Murillo and Mayca Teca and elegant and gifted pianist José Manuel Vaquero. The show will give the young Moroccan audience a chance to explore and reflect on gender roles and their relation to music and life.
