Katy Perry Biography
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, who is better known by the stage name Katy Perry, is a pop musician who was born in Santa Barbara, California, in 1984.
She was raised by Christian parents, her father being a pastor. Growing up, she only listened to Gospel music, and she would sing in her local church as a child. She earned her GED during her freshman year in high school, and then started pursuing a career in music. Under the name Katy Hudson, she released a Gospel album that was self-titled in 2001, which was actually unsuccessful after the closing of her record label.
She got the name Katy "Perry" after signing on with Capitol Music Group in 2007, which was her fourth record label within a span of seven years. She released her first Internet single, "Ur So Gay" in November of that year; it gained a lot of attention online, but didn't fare so well on the charts. She really became famous after her second single, "I Kissed a Girl" in 2008 -- it went on to claim the top spots in many international charts. Her first mainstream studio album was released later in the same year -- "One of the Boys" -- and ended up being the 33rd best-selling album worldwide in 2008.
The factor that really defines Katy Perry is her unconventional way of dressing. Most of the time she has a humorous style, with many bright colors, and incorporated many fruit-like shapes and accessories in her outfits. In her own words, Perry's style is "a bit of a concoction of different things." She has been seen in FHM Magazine's list of 100 Sexiest Women two times, coming in at the #23 spot in '09 and #37 in '10.
Katy has appeared as a guest judge in the 7th series of "The X Factor" in Britain; she has introduced her own perfume called "Purr"; and she will also appear in "The Smurfs" in 2011. Other appearances include The Young and the Restless and Wildfire in 2008, American Idol, Sesame Street, and The Simpsons in 2010, and How I Met Your Mother in 2010. For most of these roles, she stars as herself. She recently married Russell Brand on October 23, 2010.
Katy Perry has released three albums to date: "Katy Hudson" in 2001, "One of the Boys" in 2008, and "Teenage Dream" in 2010. She continues to produce albums, and will be heading out on the California Dreams Tour this year.
